Swiitch Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Swiitch collects through our website (getswiitch.com), the Swiitch mobile app and when you contact us, how we use it, and the rights you have under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Swiitch is operated by Beachfront Flamingo Rentals CC, trading as Swiitch, in South Africa ("we", "us"). You can reach us, including our Information Officer, at hello@getswiitch.com.

Our core privacy promise

We do not collect or transmit data about which apps or websites you block. Your blocking choices stay on your phone and are protected by Apple's Screen Time frameworks. We don't sell your personal information and we don't use it for advertising.

1. Buying Swiitch on Amazon

Swiitch is sold through Amazon.co.za. Amazon handles your account, payment and delivery under its own privacy notice. We never see your card or payment details. Amazon shares limited order information with us as the seller (such as what was ordered and, where needed, delivery details) and we use it only to fulfil your order, provide support and honour our guarantees.

If you bought Swiitch directly from getswiitch.com before sales moved to Amazon, we keep the order records from that time (such as your name, contact details, delivery address and what you bought) so we can honour your guarantees and meet our legal and tax obligations.

2. When you contact us

If you email us, we receive your name, email address and whatever you include in your message (for example an order number or photos of a faulty device). We use this only to reply, help you and process returns or guarantee claims.

3. Our website

Our website does not use advertising or analytics cookies and does not track you. Like any website, our hosting provider (Afrihost, in South Africa) automatically records basic technical information when pages are requested, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages visited, for security and to keep the site running.

The App Store reviews shown on our site are loaded from Elfsight, a third-party widget provider, which receives standard technical information (such as your IP address and browser) when it loads. Links to Amazon, the App Store, Instagram, TikTok and X take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies.

4. The Swiitch app

The app works without an account. All blocking happens on your device.

To understand how Swiitch is used and fix problems, the app uses Google's Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics, such as:

  • how long blocking sessions last, whether a break was taken and the type of session;

  • summary statistics such as streaks, number of sessions and days active;

  • which screens of the app are viewed, and diagnostics when a schedule needs to be repaired; and

  • standard device information collected by Firebase, such as device model, operating system and app version, approximate country, and a random app-instance identifier.

This data is not linked to your name or email, is not used for advertising or to track you across other apps and websites, and never includes which apps or websites you block. Advertising features in Firebase are switched off.

5. Newsletter

We no longer run a newsletter or send marketing emails. If you previously subscribed, we have kept your email address and your consent record. We will only contact you about Swiitch if you opted in, and you can ask us to delete your details at any time by emailing hello@getswiitch.com.

6. Who we share information with

We only share personal information with service providers who help us run Swiitch, and only as much as they need:

  • Amazon (sales, payment, delivery and returns);

  • Afrihost (website and email hosting);

  • Google Firebase (anonymous app analytics);

  • Elfsight (reviews widget on our website);

  • Apple (App Store distribution); and

  • courier services, when we send you a replacement device.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it. Some of these providers process information outside South Africa. Where that happens, we rely on them being subject to data protection laws or agreements that give a level of protection comparable to POPIA.

7. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above: for example, support emails for as long as needed to resolve your query, and order records for as long as your guarantees apply or the law requires (such as tax record-keeping). After that we delete or anonymise it.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No system is completely secure, but we'll tell you and the Information Regulator if a breach affects your information, as POPIA requires.

9. Children

Swiitch can be set up by a parent or guardian on a child's device. We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

10. Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you and request a copy;

  • ask us to correct or delete it;

  • object to us processing it, including for direct marketing; and

  • lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.

To make a request, email hello@getswiitch.com. We may need to confirm your identity first. For information Amazon holds about your order, use Amazon's privacy tools.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed.
